What is Accreditation?
The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education recognizes select accrediting agencies as reliable authorities regarding the quality of education or training offered by the institutions or programs they accredit. Accrediting agencies accredit institutions, colleges, universities, and programs.
The goal of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education meets acceptable levels of quality. Accreditation in the United States involves non-governmental entities as well as governmental agencies.
Why Choose Accredited Schoools?
- Accreditation by a recognized accrediting agency is part of the requirements for institutions to participate in federal student aid programs.
- Attending an accredited institution can be helpful later on if you want to transfer academic credits to another institution.
- Many employers in the United States only recognize degrees earned from institutions accredited by an accrediting agencies.
- In some states, it can be illegal to use a degree from an institution that is not accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency, unless approved by the state licensing agency.
